Structural walls and interior carpentry

Installation of the exterior structural walls is now complete, marking another important step in the build. 

Inside the shop, carpenters continued their work, revealing exposed beams and a high ceiling that give the space an open feel. Although the building is one storey tall, the highest part of the ceiling rises to the height of two storeys. The framing inside the walls is made from Japanese cypress (hinoki), and the lovely scent of the wood fills the space.

Roof completed

The shop’s roof is now finished. Despite the cold winter days, the roofer worked hard into dusk to complete the installation.

Shop lighting

Today my husband and I visited the Panasonic showroom in Tokyo. During our appointment, we were guided through their display and got personalised advice on lighting options and colours. Lighting is so important to the atmosphere of the shop, so it was really helpful to see everything in person.

Installing exterior walls

Installation of the exterior structural walls has started. Windows will be installed in a few days. It’s exciting to see the shop beginning to take form.

Architect guiding every step

My architect, Kobayashi-san of Archi Design, has played a key role in this project. His patience and professionalism have ensured decisions are made thoughtfully and that construction progresses efficiently. He designed the shop and is overseeing the build from concept to completion, making sure every detail is handled properly. I’m very grateful that he chose to take on this project.

Supporting the journey

My husband spent the day on site, camera in hand, recording the shop as it gradually came together. From the very beginning of this project, he has spent countless hours helping with decisions and providing hands-on support.

I'm grateful for the people who have supported me throughout this journey, especially my parents for their unwavering trust and my husband for his constant presence by my side.

A milestone moment

Today was a huge milestone in the shop construction. Seven carpenters and a crane operator arrived on site and built the framework in just two days. Watching the frame come together piece by piece was incredibly moving. What started as drawings is now standing right before our eyes. The skill and coordination of the team made this rapid progress possible.

The scaffolding is up!

Seeing the scaffolding around the site really brings the shop to life and makes the upcoming framework assembly even more exciting.
